ICTroom builds data centre in Leipzig for the German telecomprovider HL komm

Modular Data Centre solution for maximum energy efficiency, short construction times and excellent scalability

Monte Carlo, Monaco - June 7th, 2017

At the Datacloud Europe conference, Penta Infrastructure, a specialist investment company in high quality datacenter and fiber assets across Europe, announced that they have awarded ICTroom GmbH, the German branch of ICTroom Company BV, the contract to build a modern and efficient data centre for the German telecom and fiber specialist HL komm in Leipzig.

The planned data centre in the industrial area Lindenau is the third data centre location for HL komm in Leipzig. ICTroom and HL komm, part of Tele Columbus Group, will be co-managing the data centre, which houses an important German Internet node with multiple redundant connections to DE-CIX, AMS-IX and BCIX. The new facility provides a high security environment for the operation of IT infrastructure and provides data storage under the German data sovereignty.

Construction will begin in Q2 2017. The completion and commissioning of the first phase is scheduled for the end of 2017. The short construction time is made possible by the modular, platform-based Integrated Modular Data Centre (IMD) portfolio of ICTroom.

HL komm has chosen a modular approach for implementing capacity. In the first phase, 700 m² net IT space be implemented with an IT capacity of 750 kW for the data centre and 500 m² of office space. This capacity will be increased in 2019 to 1,400 m2 and an IT load of 1.5 MW. The site in Leipzig-Lindenau offers capacity for up to 4,000 square meters.

The data centre is certified under TÜViT Technical Site Infrastructure (TSI) Level 3 Version 4.0 incl. EN 50600. The IT Baseline Protection is ensured on the basis of the ISO 27001 certification. The Compliance with PCI DSS is guaranteed, HL komm has been a certified partner for many years to handle payment card transactions.

"The modular IMD concept fits perfectly with our requirements. In addition, the combination of ICTroom’s flexible Data Centre as a Service (DCaaS) model and the high level of knowledge of the dynamic team, convinced us to engage with them for this long-term project" explains Richard Fahringer, CEO of HL komm. "This project is critical to the future of HL komm and Leipzig and no other vendor was capable to deliver the necessary knowledge, flexibility and experience."

With the expansion of data centre capacity, HL komm answers to the increasing demand for secure data management within the strict legislation surrounding data protection in Germany and the EU. The planned data centre of HL komm strengthens the position of the telecommunications company from Leipzig in this strategically important growth sector.
